Beverly Takes A Break
27 09 2008
This is a guest post by my elder daughter, Beverly.
Hi, I’m Beverly and I’m Irene’s elder daughter. I am turning 12 next Sunday, YAY (actually I wish I’m turning 21)! Since I’m taking a break from my homework, my momsie says it’s OK to write a guest post on her blog, as long as I don’t mess up. Cool!
So … what should I write about? Let’s talk a little about my momsie, my little sister and me. We are like the cartoon characters in “Phineas & Ferb” (sometimes I think we are like the family in “The Wizards Of Waverly Place” too). My mom is like the mom of Phineas and Ferb and Candace, who is always nonchalent. She is too calm when I complain about my sister. I think she is weird and cool at the same time because she’s not a typical Singaporean mother. She doesn’t nag (much), she doesn’t cry on our first day of school, and she makes us do Dance of Shiva (which is really fun but difficult - I’ve already mastered one step, which is the whirly swirly movements of my arms but there are thousands more to conquer -.-”’). She’s sometimes kinda tomboyish and she fights back when we get bullied by even weirder people. She spoils me too much with good food. She’s really weird and cool at the same time, I can’t decide which is which.
So … about my irritating little sister, Natalie, a.k.a. monster. She’s like Isabella in “Phineas & Ferb”, the one who is always asking, “Wat ya doin’?”. She talks A LOT. Really. Seriously. A. Lot. She’s like the thing that won’t shut up. If I have an enemy, I will send her after him, coz she will talk him to death. Enough about my irritating little sister (whom everyone says is cute coz she sings like Boo in “Monsters Inc”, but I don’t think so … at all).
So … about me. I’m like Candace from “Phineas & Ferb”, always whining. I’m a glutton for food and I love to doodle. I hate my passport photo … I want to lose it so that I can re-take my photo and make a new one. I don’t think I’m weird, nor cool. I’m just whatever. I love scary movies but I cover my eyes and ears about 90% of the time. I can meditate and go to my sacred garden … which is a really cool secret place that looks like the grandmother tree in “Pocahontas”. By the way, my meditation visions are all in cartoon. I am trying to enjoy the last few weeks of my primary school education. I’m really nervous about going to a new school next year. I play ping pong and I plan to go to the Singapore Sports School next year, where I will train to be a prominent ping pong player on this planet. ^.^
So … that’s all folks! Thanks for reading! TTFN!
Beverly

OUTstanding post, Beverly!
I’m so glad Irene let you write this. I once let my inner child guest post (I see her as about 6 years old), but you do so much better.
I think I need your mom around me. There are many people who intimidate me, and I want Irene to protect me. And she is a good cook? Come to the US!!
Best wishes for your new school and ping pong practice.
Beverly, you sound a lot like your momsie, which is okay, cuz she’s way cool, more cool than weird, but weird is good, too, cuz there are lotsa things in this world lotsa people don’t understand, ya dig? But you don’t sound like Natalie, your little sista. Is there a little game you can play with her that would let her talk up a storm and wear herself out? Do you know another little sista where the two of them can talk up a storm and wear themselves out? Ya know, Beverly, I like that you’re just whatever, whenever. I’m a lot like that, too. I don’t insist that I be this or that. I just go with the flow, ya know? So don’t call yourself a whiner or a glutton. It doesn’t fit my image of you as a ping pong superstar. And hey, how about giving me some of that coconut juice?
Christopher
Hi Beverly,
I have a little brother (well he’s not so little anymore, he’s 34 and I’m 37) and I can tell you from personal experience that little brothers and sisters are considered cute by everyone - except their older siblings.
It’s very nice to “meet” you.
Vered
Hi Beverly: Sometimes when I meditate I see cartoon figures too, those are my favorite meditation sessions. I know how little sisters can be annoying sometimes, my younger sister Monica was always following me around and taking my things without asking. But now my sister is my best friend in the whole world. I don’t know your mother very well–just a bit from reading her blog and reading the comments she leaves on my blog–but she does seem to be weird (in a good way) and cool. I liked your post, I think you should start your own blog.
Hey there Beverly! It’s nice to meet you. Good luck in all your school activities, and try not to let your little sister bother you too much. I have three kids (13, 11, and 9) and the older two always say it’s our little guy who causes all the problems! You’d probably agree…
Oh, and good luck with the ping pong! I haven’t played in ages…
Hi Akemi, thank you. ^.^ My momsie can kick butts, but I need her here in Singapore to protect me.
Hi PeaceLoveJoyBliss. That’s a long name. 0.0 No way am I going to find another little sister who can talk up a storm! Just one is bad enough. No I am not giving you that coconut juice, it’s MINE! Hehehe.
Hi Vered, it’s nice to “meet” you too. ^.^ I totally agree with what you said!
Hi Marelisa. Good that we have something in common - seeing cartoons in our meditations, hahaha! Thanks for the encouragement. I still can’t imagine my sister becoming my best friend. -.-”’
Hi Lance, thank you. ^.^ I heard from momsie that you’re a sports coach, which is cool!

Irene, this is so cool…to get your daughter to blog on your site. My daughter has her own blog. She hardly publishes anything because she very much prefers to play computer games (which she does not get to do too often).
Beverly, can you ask your momsie if she would like to bring you and Natalie for a meal over at my place? I’ve got two lovely girls who would love to meet up with you and to learn about seeing cartoons during meditations. You can also tell me more about “The Wizards Of Waverly Place”. I’d be interested to find out too!
Beverly, you write very good!
Beverly, Thanks for sharing your article with us. It is a wonderful story. I have a younger brother and sister so I know what you mean about little sisters. Mine was a brat when we were kids. Now that we are grown, my sister and I are good friends. She is 3 1/2 years younger than me. Hope you are having a glorious time during your school break.
Hi Beverly - Welcome to the world of blogosphere. From you story we gained a little more insight into who your mom is. She sounds like a cool mom and lady. I hope to see you doing more posts in the future, as this one is awesome.
Very cool of you to get your daughter to do this, momsie
She’s definitely intelligent for her age!
Cheers,
Glen
That was awesome, Beverly. And I hate to tell you, but younger siblings will continue to bug you for the rest of your life. I’m 45 and my brothers (ages 41 and 39) still bug me from time to time. *smile*
@Momsie - I love that. My daughters call my Mummers. My son calls me M-Unit. *chuckle*
Nice to meet you.
Thank so much for your kind thoughts during little B’s illness it was much appreciated. He’s at school today and doing great.
Your “momsie” is nonchalant about your lil sis antics because you’ve trained her very well to be calm mother, so credit should go to you
I really felt like I got to know this family by just reading one post. Very informative.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Beverly is busy preparing for her final exams which is happening in 2 days’ time, so she won’t be able to reply to your comments for a while. Rest assured that she’ll be poking her head here every now and then.

Evelyn, Patricia, Barbara, Glenn, Urban Panther, Chris - thanks guys for your support to my daughter’s first ramblings on blogosphere! She had fun and is obviously amazed that anyone would want to read her writings - I suspect Natalie is not as pleased though.
Juan, Suzie, Daniel - thanks for stopping by!
Beverly — you gave us all a cool view into your life and your mom — thanks! In my family, I was the irritating little sister. I have three older brothers. We all get along pretty well now.
Best wishes on your final exams!
Lori
Hi everyone, I am taking another break from my studies. I just wanted to thank you all for reading my post and for commenting. Cool! ^.^
